Project Description

The Rotary Club of Kathmandu handed over a Phaco Machine, a specialized and advanced device used in modern cataract surgery, to B.P. Eye Foundation under a Global Grant (GG2578154), in the gracious presence of District Governor Binod Koirala, Club President Rajendra Gautam, Past Presidents, Rotarians from Japan, AG Sumeera Shrestha and District Officials on 15 January, 2026. This Global Grant project is valued at USD 39,255.
The Phaco Machine plays a vital role in contemporary ophthalmic care by enabling phacoemulsification cataract surgery, a minimally invasive technique that ensures greater precision, faster recovery, reduced surgical complications, and improved visual outcomes for patients. Compared to conventional cataract surgery, this technology allows patients to regain sight more quickly and safely, significantly enhancing their quality of life.
This contribution will greatly benefit the Nepalese community, particularly underserved and economically disadvantaged populations, by increasing access to high-quality, affordable eye care services. Cataract remains one of the leading causes of preventable blindness in Nepal, and the availability of this advanced equipment at B.P. Eye Foundation will help restore vision to thousands of patients, enabling them to return to productive and independent lives.
We extend our sincere gratitude to Rotary International District 3820 Japan, Rotary International District 2510 Japan, Rotary International District 3292 Nepal, and The Rotary Foundation for their generous support and collaboration in making this impactful humanitarian project possible.
