π―πππππ π΄ππππ, the Rotary Club of Chitwan, in collaboration with the Rotaract Club Of Chitwan, successfully organized a Free Pediatric Nutrition and Heart Health Screening Camp at National Basic School, Bharatpur-1, Narayani Kinar, Chitwan on 10th July, 2026.
The health camp focused on the early detection and prevention of common childhood health conditions. Services included malnutrition screening using the WHO Growth Standards, comprehensive pediatric health check-ups conducted in the presence of parents or guardians, visual acuity screening, leukocoria screening, and squint screening. A dedicated team of six doctors carried out the examinations, ensuring thorough health assessments for every child.
A total of 92 students, from Nursery to Grade 5, received comprehensive health screenings during the camp under the supervision of their parents or guardians. Following each examination, the medical team provided individualized counseling to parents regarding their children's overall health, nutritional status, preventive care, and any recommended follow-up treatment. Free medicines & Vitamin were also distributed to students based on the doctors' clinical assessments and prescriptions.
Nutrition counseling and awareness sessions were conducted for parents and caregivers, focusing on the causes and consequences of malnutrition, its impact on children's physical and cognitive development, preventive measures, and the importance of providing age-appropriate, nutritious, and balanced diets. Parents also received practical guidance on healthy food selection, meal preparation, and appropriate infant and young child feeding practices to promote optimal growth and development.
To further reinforce these messages, educational and awareness materials promoting balanced nutrition, healthy eating habits, and personal hygiene were attched throughout the school premises. These Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) materials helped strengthen key nutrition messages while increasing awareness among students, parents, teachers, and the wider school community about the importance of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle practices.
The program concluded with the distribution of a nutritious day meal to all participating students following their health check-ups, reinforcing the importance of healthy eating as an essential component of child development.
Through initiatives like this, the Rotary Club of Chitwan remains committed to improving maternal and child health by promoting preventive healthcare, nutrition, and community awareness. Together, we continue to build a healthier futureβbecause healthy children are the foundation of a stronger, more prosperous tomorrow.
