Project Name: 50,000 Smiles for Nepal Initiative – Free Dental Health Camp
Location: Shree Kalika Devi Secondary School, Shivapuri-6, Gurje, Nuwakot
Organized By: Rotary Club of Kathmandu North
In Collaboration With: Kantipur Dental College & Hospital and BM Foundation
Project Overview
As part of the ongoing global commitment to community health and wellness, the Rotary Club of Kathmandu North successfully organized a comprehensive Free Dental Health Camp at Shree Kalika Devi Secondary School in Shivapuri-6, Gurje, Nuwakot. Executed under the impactful banner of the "50,000 Smiles for Nepal" initiative, this camp was made possible through a strategic collaboration with Kantipur Dental College and the BM Foundation.
The primary objective of the camp was to provide critical oral healthcare services, basic treatments, and hygiene education to an underserved school community lacking immediate access to specialized dental care.
Beneficiary Summary
The camp successfully screened, educated, and treated a total of 200 beneficiaries:
• Students: 150 students received comprehensive dental check-ups, oral health screenings, and preventative care instructions.
• School Personnel: 50 teachers and support staff members were also examined and treated, ensuring the health benefits extended to the entire school ecosystem.
Key Activities & Interventions
1. Comprehensive Dental Screenings: A team of qualified dental surgeons and assistants from Kantipur Dental College conducted meticulous oral examinations for all participants.
2. On-Site Consultations & Basic Treatments: Patients presenting with acute issues received on-site consultations, necessary referrals, and advice on complex treatments.
3. Oral Hygiene Education: Interactive awareness sessions were conducted for students to instill proper brushing techniques, dietary habits for strong teeth, and the importance of regular dental check-ups.
4. Distribution of Hygiene Kits: Free dental kits (toothbrushes and toothpaste) were distributed to encourage students to sustain healthy habits at home.
Alignment with Rotary’s 7 Areas of Focus
This project directly advances Rotary's core focus area of Disease Prevention and Treatment. By targeting oral health—a fundamental yet frequently neglected component of systemic well-being—the project mitigates long-term health complications among rural youth and educators, fostering a healthier, more vibrant learning environment.
Conclusion
The collaborative effort between the Rotary Club of Kathmandu North, Kantipur Dental College, and the BM Foundation brought essential healthcare directly to the doorsteps of those who need it most. By restoring and protecting 200 smiles in Nuwakot, this camp marks another milestone toward the national goal of the "50,000 Smiles for Nepal" initiative.
