Project Description

A free eye screening camp and cataract surgery have been completed in two phases under the organization of the Rotary Club of Hetauda. 131 affected patients who had difficulty walking due to cataracts in their eyes were operated on.

In the first phase, which started on 21st November, 720 free eye screening were conducted in Chitwan, Sarlahi and Manahari, out of which 72 affected patients were operated on.

The second phase of the camp, which started on 17 Mangsir (3–7 December 2025), was successfully completed for five days under the initiative and coordination of the Rotary Club of Hetauda and jointly organized by 15 clubs of Rotary District 3292 (RC Hetauda, RC Bagmati Kathmandu, RC Balaju, RC Gongabu, RC Kathmandu, RC Kathmandu Circle, RC Kathmandu Downtown, RC Kathmandu Height, RC Kathmandu Metro, RC Madhyapur, RC Matrubhumi Baluwatar, RC Patan, RC Rajdhani, RC Yala, RC Tinkune).

In the free eye screening camp held at five locations in the Indrasarovar area, 329 people underwent comprehensive eye screening and 67 were found to have cataracts during the screening, of which 3 were found to have cataracts covering both eyes and having difficulty walking.

On 20th November, 59 people underwent free cataract surgeries in a surgery camp organized at Shree Panchakanya Secondary School, Khanikhet, Kulekhani-3. Out of these, 2 people who had problems in both eyes underwent successful surgeries on both eyes by a technical team led by Dr. Sunil Thakali, an ophthalmologist at the Community Eye Hospital, Hetauda.

The organizing committee has stated that the program was very effective due to the enthusiasm, participation and direct results seen in the local community for five days. We have taken up this campaign with the belief that there is no greater charity than sight donation. Today, 59 people have been able to see the world again due to the united efforts of 15 clubs, the active support of the local government and the dedicated team of the Community Eye Hospital.
