Project Description
Awareness Program focusing on Drowning Prevention, delivered by Rtn. Dr. Bhagawati Sedai. Dr. Sedai highlighted the growing risk of drowning incidents in Nepal, particularly in rural areas such as the Madhesh and Terai regions, where access to safety resources and timely emergency support remains limited. She emphasized that drowning is often an overlooked public health issue, despite posing a serious threat to vulnerable communities, especially children and indigenous populations. Dr. Sedai stressed the importance of municipal-level awareness initiatives and targeted outreach programs to effectively address this challenge. During the session, she proposed that Rotary can play a pivotal role by initiating a globally recognized drowning prevention program, which would include:
• Awareness campaigns in schools and local communities
• Capacity-building and rescue training
• Distribution of educational materials and basic safety equipment
• Advocacy and coordination with local governments
The program concluded with a strong message that through awareness, coordination, and collective commitment, drowning-related tragedies can be significantly reduced. Rotary’s dedication to community service can serve as a powerful force in making communities safer and more resilient.
