Project Description

On Tuesday, Poush 15, a delegation comprising officials and members from multiple Rotary and Inner Wheel Clubs traveled from Kathmandu to Paiyun to formally hand over the completed toilets. The handover ceremony was attended by local elected representatives, mothers’ groups, social workers, and beneficiaries, reflecting strong community participation.

Previously, Rotary had also constructed and handed over 20 toilets in Wards No. 5 and 6 of the same rural municipality last year, demonstrating continued commitment to sanitation and community development in the area.

During the handover program, the Chairperson, Vice-Chairperson, Ward Chairs, and local social leaders highly appreciated Rotary’s invaluable contribution to community development. They expressed confidence that Rotary would continue to play a constructive and meaningful role in serving the community in the future.

Addressing the program, the Presidents of the participating Rotary Clubs reaffirmed their commitment to serving communities by contributing resources, capacity, and time to the best of their ability. The visiting delegation from Kathmandu was warmly welcomed and honored by local mothers’ groups and ward representatives through cultural performances accompanied by traditional music.

Each toilet was constructed at a cost of NPR 30,000, with financial support provided by various Rotary Clubs, Inner Wheel Clubs, and individual Rotarians. The supporting organizations and individuals include Rotary Club of Balaju, Inner Wheel Club of Balaju, Rotary Club of Gongabu, Rotary Club of Kathmandu, Rotary Club of Kathmandu Circle, Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height, Rotary Club of Hetauda, Rotary Club of Pashupati Kathmandu, Rotary Club of Kathmandu Metro, Rotary Club of Matribhoomi Baluwatar, Rotary Club of Nagarjun, Rotary Club of Himalayan Golfers, Rotary Club of Kavre Banepa, Rotary Club of Maharajgunj, Rotary Club of Mount Everest, Rotary Club of Jawalakhel Manjushree, and individual contributors including Rotarian Lata Baral Sharma; Past District Governor Jaya Rajya Laxmi Shah; Past District Governor Jitendra Bahadur Rajbhandari; Rotarian Sharda Acharya Pokharel; Rotarian Dr. Suniti Acharya; Rotarian Dinesh Prasad Shrestha; Rotarian Ashoknath Pyakurel; Rotarian Laxman Gyawali; and Rotarian Bhim Bahadur Bogati.

The donors who supported the toilet construction will be formally honored at a ceremony in Kathmandu, as informed by Tilak Tiwari, President of the Rotary Club of Tinkune Kathmandu.

The handover event was attended by Shova Kumari Poudel, President of the Rotary Club of Balaju; Rajaram Phuyal, President of the Rotary Club of Gongabu; Rajendra Gautam, President of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu; Nilahari Koirala, President of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Circle; Arun Sharma, President of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height; Tilak Tiwari, President of the Rotary Club of Tinkune Kathmandu; Mandira Shrestha, President of the Inner Wheel Club of Balaju; and board member Sumanlata Singh, among others.

Beneficiaries expressed their sincere gratitude to Rotary for constructing proper and hygienic toilets, noting that their previous sanitation conditions were extremely poor.

Rotary has been implementing various service projects in Paiyun for several years, including the handover of ECG and ultrasound equipment to the Paiyun Community Hospital, distribution of warm clothes, school bags, stationery, and the provision of scholarships to students from extremely disadvantaged families.
The coordination of the toilet construction project for underprivileged households was jointly carried out by the Rotary Club of Balaju and the Rotary Club of Tinkune Kathmandu.
