Project Description
Dhading, 5th February — A free cataract surgery camp was successfully conducted at Dhunibesi Municipality–7, Dhading, bringing renewed hope and vision to senior citizens suffering from eyesight problems. The humanitarian initiative was organized under the leadership of the Rotary Club of Gongabu, with the joint efforts of the Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height and several other Rotary and Rotaract clubs.
The surgeries were carried out on 3rd and 4th February 2026 at the proposed Municipal Hospital. The camp formally concluded following the removal of eye bandages, marking an emotional and joyful moment for the beneficiaries. Prior to the surgeries, phased eye screening camps were organized across various wards of Dhunibesi Municipality and Thakre Rural Municipality. Screening centers were set up at Chhatredeurali Health Post, Jivanpur Health Post, Naubise Health Post, Kebalpur Health Post, and Kulchandra Basic School, Jivanpur. A total of 1,321 individuals were examined, out of which 96 cataract patients were identified. Among them, 68 patients underwent successful free cataract surgeries. Of the remaining 24 patients who could not receive immediate surgery, five were referred to Nepal Eye Hospital in Kathmandu for further free treatment. Notably, six patients received surgery in both eyes. The camp also benefited several elderly individuals above 80 years of age.
Rotary leaders highlighted that the initiative reflected Rotary’s spirit of “Service Above Self” and “Unite for Good.” According to Arun Sharma, President of Rotary Club of Kathmandu Height, one of the most inspiring outcomes was restoring vision to 80-year-old Pinte Ba, who had been living with cataracts in both eyes for seven years. With restored eyesight and renewed hope, the camp stands as a powerful example of collaborative community service and Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian action.
